Whenever you earn miles through everyday purchases such as from a partner car rental, hotel stay, fill-up at Esso, or travel with Air Canada Vacations, you're earning Aeroplan Miles.
However, Aeroplan Miles earned on flights with Air Canada, with the Star Alliance network and with other eligible airline partners are considered Air Canada Status Miles. These Status Miles are counted towards Top-Tier Status and benefits with Air Canada.
Both types of miles, Aeroplan Miles and Air Canada Status Miles, make up your overall Aeroplan Mile balance. However, only Status Miles give you access to Top-Tier Status, Star Alliance Benefits and Threshold Bonuses.

We do not grant mile accumulation on reward travel flights, travel industry discounted tickets, infant tickets, bartered tickets or promotional tickets. Your mileage accumulation may also vary depending on the fare class you purchase.
** Aeroplan Miles accumulated on Tango fares (R, K, G, P, E, N, and T booking classes) for flights within Canada and between Canada and the Continental U.S.A. only (including Hawaii) do not count towards Air Canada Top-Tier Status.
