Air Rewards Terms and Conditions
The following is a list of terms and conditions for booking and managing Aeroplan rewards online:
1. Aeroplan Members with Air Canada Super Elite® and Air Canada Elite® status should contact the Aeroplan Centre about their travel benefits.
2. Aeroplan Members who log-in with an Aeroplan password have "authenticated" access to the online booking and reward management tools on aeroplan.com.
- a) The completion of a booking depends on the itinerary and ticket options available at each ticketing location.
- b) Some bookings for Star Alliance airlines may not be confirmed online. Reservations must be confirmed/completed by calling the Aeroplan Contact Centre within 24 hours of booking - or the bookings will be cancelled without notice. The use of e-mail and/or fax transmissions to confirm/complete the reservations is not permitted. Any bookings that are not confirmed will be cancelled.
3. Most Rewards can be booked a minimum of two hours prior to departure.
4. All reservations and/or itineraries are subject to approval by Aeroplan and/or the individual carriers in question.
5. Payment of all applicable fees and taxes is the sole responsibility of the Aeroplan Member. All pre-collected, applicable taxes and fees must be paid by credit card when confirming any reward booking.
- a) The credit card used for payment must be in the name of the Aeroplan Member or the passenger benefiting from the travel reward.
- b) On behalf of Air Canada, Aeroplan may pre-collect some applicable taxes and fees at the time of confirmation. Other taxes and fees may be collected upon departure.
6. If you've chosen reward travel with Air Canada, Jazz LP (doing business as Air Canada Jazz), Air Georgian Limited (doing business as Air Alliance), Calm Air or Central Mountain Air, the agent will confirm your reward reservation immediately upon availability. If you've requested a reward with another airline partner, your booking must be made at least 48 hours prior to departure. This will allow your request to be responded to within 48 hours. Reward reservations with First Air, Canadian North, Bearskin and Calm Air must be made at least 14 days prior to departure for remote location delivery.
7. Aeroplan reward bookings must be confirmed for ticketing immediately at the time of reservation.
8. Reward tickets are valid for one year from the date of issue, unless otherwise specified.
Additional Terms and Conditions
9. Aeroplan rewards, including upgrade certificates and tickets cannot be redeemed for cash and will be declared void if sold, bartered or transferred; and as a result, members may be subject to prosecution and/or loss of program privileges.
10. Rewards may not be upgraded by paying an additional fee, using any upgrade voucher, or using additional mileage once the reward ticket/certificate is issued.
11. When redeeming airline reward travel through the Aeroplan Contact Centre, you will be subject to a service fee of CA$30.00 (plus taxes) applicable per passenger, per flight reward ticket. This fee is non-refundable. All fees are subject to change with or without notice.
12. All ClassicFlight rewards entitle you to a single round trip. Open tickets are not permitted. Ticket coupons must be used in sequence.
13. All ClassicPlus flight rewards entitle you to a either a single roundtrip or one-way trip reward (immigration laws in some countries require proof of onward or return travel). All North American destinations may be redeemed for one-way reward travel. International destinations require round trip mileage rewards although some exception may apply. Open tickets are not permitted. Ticket coupons must be used in sequence.
14. ClassicPlus flight reward mileage level quotes are valid at the time you redeem your Aeroplan Miles and only for the itinerary booked. Changes to your reward itinerary may incur incremental mileage if the price of the revised itinerary to Aeroplan changes. This may be due to availability, time of flight, day of travel, seasonality, advance purchase or minimum / maximum stay.
15. There are no blackout periods on Aeroplan reward travel with Air Canada and Air Canada Jazz. Aeroplan rewards on all other airlines are subject to blackout periods. For more details, view the airline reward charts or call the Aeroplan Contact Centre.
16. Capacity controls also apply. This means there are a limited number of ClassicFlight reward seats available on a given flight. There may be instances when flights are not completely booked but all available reward seats have been claimed. Capacity controls do not apply for ClassicPlus flight rewards.
17. The reward code for ClassicFlight rewards are determined by the airline and the highest class of service flown on any segment on the reward redemption.
18. Backtracking is not permitted on reward travel. This means that travel must go in one direction only: east or west, north or south, and you cannot bypass your point of origin. The following trip, for example, would not be permitted on one reward: Toronto-Vancouver-Halifax-Toronto. Applicable routings apply within each zone identified on the reward chart.
19. It is the sole responsibility of the passenger to obtain, and have in possession upon departure, all appropriate travel documents required by law. Passengers who do not have the necessary documentation to travel will be denied boarding by Air Canada and other participating Aeroplan carriers without compensation.
20. When you are requesting a flight reward, the name entered on the reservation must be the full legal name of the person intended to use it, as it appears on the passenger's passport and must match the name on the reservation file. Proof of identity will be required at check-in.
21. Reward tickets are required for children two years of age or over, whether or not they are accompanied by an adult.
22. If an infant (under two years of age) is travelling, please ensure that you advise Air Canada at the time of your reward request. Infants not occupying a seat travel free of charge on Air Canada and Air Canada Jazz in North America and Hawaii. Only one infant (not occupying a seat) may accompany an adult travelling on a reward ticket. Taxes may apply for infants not occupying a seat. If they occupy a seat, regular reward requirements apply.
23. On international reward travel, members have the choice of redeeming Aeroplan Miles for an infant flight reward or paying a flat fee by travel reward zone for an international infant. Infant flight rewards are available on Air Canada only. Please ask for details when making reward reservations.
24. Aeroplan Members must keep their Aeroplan account information up to-date. To verify or modify account information, please visit the Your Profile page before you book a reward online.
25. To maintain the security of your account, you are the only person who can request reward travel in exchange for miles from your Aeroplan account, unless you formally request that this privilege be extended to one other specific person (i.e.: spouse, assistant, travel agent). Such requests should be directed to the Aeroplan Contact Centre either by phone or in writing.
26. Ensure you have sufficient Aeroplan Miles in your account to claim the flight reward you desire. If there is not sufficient mileage in your Aeroplan account, your reservation will be cancelled.
Delivery Method
27. Whenever applicable, electronic tickets will be issued. For itineraries that are not electronic ticket-eligible, reservations should be confirmed at least 14 days prior to departure to allow for "free" delivery of "paper" tickets via mail.
28. Reward tickets can be delivered to you in one of many ways. Applicable taxes and any mileage purchased must be paid by credit card at time of booking.
- a) Electronic Ticket
When you phone the Aeroplan Contact Centre to request reward travel on eligible Air Canada, Air Canada Jazz and most of our Star Alliance partner flights, an electronic ticket will be stored in Air Canada's computer system. Electronic Tickets have replaced paper tickets for these flights and are the new standard for reward travel. You'll simply receive an electronic ticket receipt as confirmation, and need only present your receipt along with a photo I.D. to receive your boarding pass. - b) Mail
We'll send your reward tickets free-of-charge to the address on your file. Please note that this option can take up to two weeks to get to your door. Aeroplan is not responsible for any tickets lost or delayed in the mail, and will not replace them. - c) AeroExpress Courier Service
With the AeroExpress Courier Service, for $35 (CA), plus applicable taxes, your reward ticket should arrive in four to six business days, although remote areas might require additional time. Please note that this service is only payable by credit card and is non-refundable. Also, we're not able to send the ticket to a P.O. Box. - d) AeroRush Service
With AeroRush, available for rewards that require a paper ticket, we prioritize the processing of your reward (CA$50, plus applicable taxes). Tickets can be picked up at any Air Canada or Air Canada Jazz airport ticket counter.
Changing Flight Rewards
29. Voluntary changes or cancellations to eligible itineraries must be done no later than two hours prior to departure and may require the payment of additional fees or the collection of additional Aeroplan Miles.
- a) Failure to change or cancel your flight reward reservation would forfeit your reward ticket. Tickets that have been forfeit are no longer valid for travel.
- b) Provided that you change your booking a minimum of two hours before departure, your unused reward tickets will remain valid for one year from the date of their original issue.
- c) For changes to your flight reward reservations, members must call the Aeroplan Contact Centre.
30. For CA$90 per ticket (plus applicable taxes), you can make changes to the flight date(s), flight number(s), routing and/or itinerary changes (including cabin) by calling the Aeroplan Contact Centre.
31. You may need to add more Aeroplan Miles in order to make changes to your reward trip. In such cases, you'll need to authorize the redemption of those additional miles.
32. Other changes may reduce the Aeroplan Miles required. Because we can't refund those miles, you could cancel your existing reward travel and start the reward reservation process over again. You'll also have to consider that associated fees will apply and all arrangements depend on reward seat availability.
33. Name changes are not permitted once the reservation has been made or tickets have been issued.
34. Same-day standby at the airport is permitted for earlier flights within North America-free of charge-for passengers holding a confirmed Aeroplan seat on Air Canada and/or Air Canada Jazz in the Executive cabin only. Departure and arrival cities must be the same as the confirmed flight. Same-day standby must be requested at the departure city, once the member has checked in for a confirmed flight. Additional restrictions may apply.
35. Same-day confirmed change at the airport is permitted to either an earlier or later flight on the same itinerary for a charge of $75 (Cdn) for passengers holding either an Economy or Executive cabin confirmed Aeroplan ClassicFlight or ClassicPlus flight reward on Air Canada and/or Air Canada Jazz. Same-day changes are subject to availability. No additional mileage charges apply for changes made on the day of travel at the airport.
36. ClassicPlus flight rewards cannot be changed to ClassicFlight rewards or Star Alliance flight rewards.
Prior to your reward travel, but after your reward ticket has been issued
37. Before you depart, you're welcome to change your flight reward travel with Air Canada, Star Alliance and Air Canada Jazz, depending on the availability of rewards. To make a change, please call the Aeroplan Contact Centre.
Once reward travel has begun
38. Once you embark, you can still make changes to your reward travel electronic tickets on Air Canada and Air Canada Jazz, depending on reward space availability. For paper ticket holders, the passenger can access an Air Canada ticket counter, if a ticket reissue is necessary. All changes must be within the same reward zone. To make a change, please call the Aeroplan Contact Center.
Cancelling Flight Rewards
39. Mileage for unexpired and unused tickets can be reinstated into your account up to 22 days before your scheduled date of departure. The fee for this reinstatement is CA$90 per person per reward ticket (or per reward code) plus applicable taxes.
40. To pay, simply use your credit card when requesting that miles be reinstated. For paper tickets: Return unused and unexpired tickets to the Aeroplan Reward Department with a letter containing your request for reinstatement. In this letter, provide your credit card number and its expiry date. Please allow four weeks for the mileage to be reinstated to your account.
41. While Aeroplan mileage cannot be reinstated into your account within 21 days of scheduled departure, your reward reservations can be changed for a fee of CA$90 per ticket, plus applicable taxes.
42. Provided that you cancel or change your booking a minimum of two hours before departure, your unused reward tickets will remain valid for one year from the date of their original issue.
43. Tickets for reward reservations that are not cancelled or changed two hours prior to the scheduled departure time will be forfeited and considered no longer valid for travel.
44. We do not reinstate your miles on unused portions of tickets nor if your reward travel has begun.
45. Aeroplan service, change and cancellation fees are non-refundable. All fees are subject to change with or without notice.
